WHIRLPOOLS

WHIRLPOOLS

Whirlpool (or jetted baths) have become very common additions to homes. A whirlpool bath’s circulating system utilizes a pump and plastic piping to direct a water stream through a nozzle (jet) into the tub. There is also an associated aeration system designed to channel air into the tub through a small opening at the end of the jet. The combination results in a whirlpool or circulating effect to the water flow within the tub.

Considerations
With even normal usage, it is possible that bacteria and other contaminants could build up in the piping and pumping system due to the presence of residual water and normal body oils, hair, etc. The warm, dark environment of the circulation system provides an ideal breeding place for infectious bacteria, mold and other microorganisms. The Schultz Property Inspection Technical Staff recommends that all manufacturer’s installation and maintenance and usage guidelines be followed. Professional cleaning may be needed in some cases to ensure proper removal of contaminants.
